Beware - insect repellents do just that they repel insects.
Even the most effective DEET preparations do not provide an absolute guarantee that you will not be bitten, and no insect repellent protects you against disease if you are bitten.
The Department of Health recommends that visitors to malarial areas should speak to their doctor about the disease-prevention medications available; and seek to avoid mosquito bites by using a combination of insect repellents, insect killers and a mosquito net. If you feel ill within three months of your return from a malarial region, you must mention your visit to your doctor.
Be prepared and enjoy your trip.
